Reading Mountains Bookmark

Reading Mountains (“Munții prin lectură” in Romanian) is an educational project that AECO is organizing in Romania starting 2016, in order to celebrate the Mountain exactly on its day: 11th of December.

“Munții prin lectură” is a Romanian project which aims to bring upfront the modern local mountain literature and culture by supporting and encouraging people to write about the mountain and mountain activities, to read, to publish and, in this way, to contribute to the discovery of a side of the Mountain, more elevated, more profound.

The Romanian event Reading Mountains, at its second edition now, it is the first one taking place in the Carpathian mountain range and is part of the European series organized around the Alps under the Alpine Convention coordination.

The Carpathians are playing an important role in our history, the people who lived and are living below these mountains for thousands of years. Beside resources, food and housing, today the Carpathians are offering us a wonderful place to relax and spend free time, which is not yet fully appreciated by the Romanians.

Unfortunately, although the mountain literature and culture is extremely developed, active and actual in countries with tradition, in Romania it is insignificant, invisible, lacking from the thematic landscape.

AECO Romania aims from its beginning to change and improve this situation, organizing several projects and initiatives towards this goal in the past 10 years.
